VolksAmerica Issue 12 has somewhat of an Oval theme. We feature three very different but equally enchanting Oval Beetles: one 1955 Beetle is now owned by the same young man who remembers sitting in the back seat with his little brother and dad behind the wheel, another is a radical 1956 car that has a chopped top and suicide doors and 1776cc engine, and in stark contrast, the third also from 1956 has been perfectly restored to as new, stock condition – each one. Each has a wonderful story, inspiring and heartwarming, as do all our feature cars.
A sensational 1969 Bay Window from California is also a beauty and made for maximum fun with a ragtop the size of a long-jump sand pit and an elegant, custom-made interior. Then there’s the ultimate hot hatch, a Golf GTI owned by a young teenage enthusiast who is still too young to drive but who restored and modified the car with her dad and is challenging him for the number of trophies she’s winning!
And of course the charismatic Karmann Ghia, our main cover car this issue, which turned heartbreak into happiness for its owners when they were finally cruising around Pell City, Alabama. Plus we feature show reports, how to re-build your Bug door with Airkooled Kustoms, cylinder head talk for a budget build 1600cc, early VW Type 2 history and much, much more in 116 pages of classic VW pleasure.
So settle in to your favourite comfy chair, put your feet up and immerse yourself in issue 12.
Relax – Its’s VolksAmerica Time!
